Message and musical style

Music has the unparalleled power to influence our feelings and state of mind. Just think about how changing the score of a movie-scene can entirely change how the scene comes across emotionally. We use this power to realign us with ourselves and the world around us. In a world that moves fast and demands constant attention, we want to create something that gives space to breathe, to focus, to relax.

We achieve this blend of repetition with free improvisation. Minimalistic elements such as repetitive melodies and slow gradual changes evoke introspective and meditative states while the free-improvised structure roots the music in the ‘here and now’ and allows us to reach moments of exhilarating ecstasy.

Story of the name ‘Blue Bonsai’

Bonsai is a paradox: both wild and controlled, shaped yet alive. It can be an analogy for a number of things: for the world we inhabit, where nature and human influence intertwine, the human relationships and connections we have with each other or the way we treat ourselves, our body and our character. Bonsai cultivation is an ideal form of this relationship. A practice of care, patience, and respect, where the tendencies of nature are guided rather than dominated or exploited. This reflects a deeper philosophy: coexistence rather than control.

Blue-leaved bonsai however doesn’t exist in nature. It expresses that this is afterall an ideal, which doesn’t exist and can possibly never be achieved, yet something we have to continuously strive for. Something beyond the physical, something spiritual and transcendent.
